This position will be hired through the Youth Center.
SUMMARY:
This is a temporary part-time 7-week professional position working with juveniles between the ages of 10-18 in the Secure Detention and Shelter Divisions at the Youth Center. The teacher must have a strong foundation in classroom management and behavior modification. This employee must be familiar with and have experience in a wide variety of concepts, activities and techniques related to teaching on a secondary level. Especially important is the ability to work with dependent and delinquent youths in a non-traditional school setting.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Pennsylvania Teacher’s Certificate - preferred dual certification in Special Education
- Strong foundation in classroom management and behavior modification.
- Familiarity and experience with a variety of concepts, activities and techniques related to teaching on a secondary level.
- An acute awareness of security issues related to teaching in a detention environment.
- Must have good writing and record-keeping skills.
- Must have good moral and ethical character.
- Must have a PA Criminal History Record check, a drug test, Child Abuse History clearance and FBI fingerprint clearance prior to employment.
- Must have a physical examination report from a licensed physician.
- Must have a valid PA Drivers License.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the quality of education administered to students.
- Organizes, plans and develops daily instruction and courses.
- Provides diversified student assignments and programs according to the individual’s capabilities.
- Promotes role modeling through good teaching application and maintaining a high level of acceptable educational standards.
- Coordinates and interacts with other teachers regarding scheduling, managing students and educational field trips .
- Communicates effectively with staff in conjunction with changes, problems and administration of daily activities.
- Perform related work as required.
