Effective January 2025, a vacancy will exist for a Full Time Bus Driver within the Norristown Area School District.
The goal of this position is to provide the students quality transportation, and assist in the utility operations for the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain a valid PA CDL license with “S” and “P” endorsements
- Comply with all state and federal regulations covering Commercial Drivers Licenses (CDL)
- Operate a school bus or school vehicle to transport students to and from school
- Serves as stand-by driver for emergencies
- Makes all mechanical checks and inspections to vehicles as required
- Assists in readying any vehicle for operations (repair, clean, polish, fuel, etc.)
- Act as a utility person during times when not driving
The utility function of this job will require making deliveries, moving/lifting materials/supplies, snow removal, loading/unloading trucks, moving furniture, making small repairs, and other duties required by the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Must have a valid PA Driver’s License (CDL) with “S” and “P” Endorsements
- Must have mechanical aptitude
- Must be able to understand and follow bus schedules
- Must be physically able to move supplies and unload trucks which will require lifting of materials
- Must be able to operate district cars, trucks, buses, equipment, snow plows, etc. Also, must be able to work overtime for district transportation requirements and to assist with snow removal projects
- Must be willing to learn the fundamentals of school building operations required for the opening and use of mechanical equipment
- Bilingual in Spanish Preferred
CERTIFICATES, CLEARANCES AND/OR LICENSES:
- Valid PA Driver’s License (CDL) with “S” and “P” Endorsements
- Act 34 - Criminal History Clearance
- Act 151- Child Abuse History Clearance
- FBI Criminal Background Check
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
- Thorough knowledge of transportation procedures and the operation and maintenance of school buses
- Thorough knowledge of driving safety practices and traffic law and regulations pertaining to school bus operation
- Knowledge of computer programs and computer databases – MS Word, MS Excel, e-mail, database programs and bus scheduling programs
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret safety procedures, technical procedures or governmental regulations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from drivers, parents, various NASD personnel and the general public
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form

SCHEDULE:
Monday-Friday, 9 hrs/day (8 hours paid, 1 hour unpaid)
PAY RATE (For 2024-2025):
$30.84/hour
